MoneyShow’s Cannabis Investing Track Attracts Large Crowds to Orlando

Cannabis has officially gone mainstream. What was once only talked about in hushed tones is now front and center as publicly traded marijuana companies continue to gain massive ground – and plenty of interest from investors of all types, from institutional capitalists to retirees looking to buy into the next Apple or Google. At the recent MoneyShow conference in Orlando, Florida, the “Investing in Cannabis” track drew a standing-room only crowd, mostly made up of individuals curious about the next big thing for the hot pot market.
“I avoided cannabis until they approved it in Canada,” explains Warren Fischer, a retired real estate investor from Houston, Texas who attended several of the day’s panels and presentations and stated that he owns stock in a few of the big players such as Canopy Growth. “This event provides new ideas and technology.”
“Everybody’s looking for that silver bullet,” says Aaron West, President of MoneyShow. “What we do is we connect the end user, so high net worth individual investors and active traders with best in the industry and then put them together so that investors are more well rounded and can make better, more profitable decisions.”
The daylong cannabis investment track included a rousing speech from High Times CEO Adam Levin, who was discussing the iconic brand’s upcoming IPO, as well as an update from Canadian mega-producer Aurora Cannabis, whose VP of Investor Relations, Marc Laamaaker, was on hand to answer questions about the behemoth’s planned expansions into Europe and Asia.
“MoneyShow is always ahead of the trend since the ’80s; It’s one of the best conferences for investors to learn about emerging opportunities,” said speaker Michael Berger of Technical 420, a cannabis research and consulting resource. “We’ve had several clients come to this event, and they always bring an affluent and engaged audience that are actively seeking cannabis investment, so it’s easy for us to expose our clients to an engaged audience that’s up to date and know what they’re looking for.”
Berger adds that the signing of the 2018 Farm Bill in December has opened the floodgates for the cannabidiol (CBD) market to thrive, bringing in potentially hundreds of millions of dollars. This has investors chomping at the bit to get in while the getting’s good.
“This is a great event in terms of exposure to new deals as well as mature companies in the space,” said Berger. “I mean, we saw TGOD come through here when they were raising money at $1.15 a share, and history definitely repeats itself.”
