The cannabis industry is growing and the need for maximizing space and yield are important concerns. At Hyperponic, there is a desire to embrace technology and expand the ability of growers to maximize their output. Utilizing patented aeroponic systems, this company is poised to dominate the cannabis industry – and agriculture as a whole.

CFN Media spoke with Doug Fyvolent, Founder and Managing Partner of Hyperponic, at the recent Cannabrunch in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to discuss how this firm is disrupting the industry by literally changing how plants are grown.

CFN:  Tell us a bit more about the history of the company?

Doug Fyvolent:  Hyperponic is first and foremost a technology-driven grow system that utilizes space better than any other system in the country. We started the company by developing a sustainable urban farm with our towers to be used in food deserts around the country. We could grow 6,000 heads of lettuce a month on a quarter of an acre of land, organically and with solar power. When we went out to raise money, everybody said, “This is totally amazing – can you grow pot?”

Then after about eight months, we revamped the company, moved it indoors, installed the first couple of towers in Denver, Colorado to prove the concept. Then we came back, updated the system where we updated just about everything and raised enough money to actually build the first grow in Asheville, North Carolina. So now we have an operational grow, and we’re very excited.

We use an aeroponic growing method, but we designed a patent-pending flow system to replace the misters and the problems that come with it, like clogging and high maintenance.

CFN:  How does aeroponics work?

DF:  With aeroponics, we have a clean delivery of nutrients to the plants. Growing in pots or grow media is inconsistent – that’s why most pharmaceutical companies rely on synthetic compounds, because it’s consistent and they can control it. We’ve developed a system that is just what they are looking for. We’re going to be moving into tissue culture for clones so that the plants will be genetically identical. As cannabis and hemp become a commodity and with big pharma and the government getting involved, it’s critical that industry and consumers can have clean, pesticide, chemical, toxin and heavy metal free products. And that all starts with clean, consistent plants.

CFN:  What is your business model?

DF:  We are a business leasing and consulting company, so technically as a business, we don’t touch the plants, and we will install the system into a grow at little or no cost to the grower. That allows them to concentrate on their core business, which is selling the product and making money. We offer this turnkey solution to minimize their risk because we share the risk with them. We get paid for performance, based of the system. And we utilize the space to grow three times the volume that they’re currently growing at an affordable price. It’s a win-win for everybody.

CFN:  How is Hyperponic poised to be a disruptor in the global agriculture industry?

DF:  This technology goes far beyond the cannabis business; it can literally change the world in countries with bad soils and little or no agricultural economy. These systems can be set up and built out as an agricultural system to support the citizens. I think that this is one of the most exciting things about our system. Once we’re up and running on cannabis side, we will be going back to our roots.

We’ll be looking at the urban farms and giving back to the food deserts and the kids that aren’t getting the nutrition that they need. If we can get kids to eat some dark greens, kale, or even spinach with their macaroni and cheese or do lettuce wraps, just a couple of servings a week can change their nutritional value in their diet, all for the good. That’s important to give back. It’s not just about making all the money – we want to use the money for good. We want to change the world with our system.
